Terry Cloth and Cigarettes
I was also staring at these people - such a vivid account of these people, so physically connected. Well read, beautifully written.
First off... I want so much to hear more.
This is an amazing insight into the complexity of human relationships. Why are these two together? Is it an innocent relationship of convenience or something more sinister and deplorable?
I don't know if the author intended a social commentary by it or not, but I suppose one could extrapolate the former situation to describe even outwardly (physically) synchronous human relationships which are not necessarily so behind closed doors (What really brings two people together and keeps them together?)
The images of the fat older guy and young woman together, especially "spooning" and the t-shirt, are so incredibly funny, and yet the reader's style is so deadpan that I was left wondering whether my laughter was at someone's expense and I felt a bit guilty at the same time.
I feel like this juxtaposition of disparate emotions (conjured in the listener) must parallel somehow with the outwardly dichotomous relationship between the 2 characters, and it left me reeling. Really great how 2 minutes and 38 seconds can do this.
