There are people we credit as our firsts. My parents were the first love relationship I ever witnessed. This is about them.

I admire how you write and share such potentially uncomfortable and personal topics with ease, friendliness and humor.

Wow. A discussion of parental sex is an interesting way to discuss relationships and commitments. If they didn't believe in birth control it's not likely they'd believe in divorce. Why did they die so young?

Have you read Alice Munro's "The Bear Came Over the Mountain" or seen the movie adaptation, "Without Her?"

This piece reminded me immediately of that story because it deals with the unpopular topic of elderly love (emotional and physical manifestations).

It is a topic/subgenre of the highest import, I think, because younger generations seem to be fixated on (aside from navel-gazing), youthful, more photogenic relationships with little consideration for what factors might help those relationships last, and we lack in large part any concept of what love might look and feel like long after the wrinkles have roosted.

I must say that the ending sentiment hit me like a brick in the stomach. I did not expect it at all.

As per usual, it was a pleasure to hear.
